The Project Estimator (PE) is responsible for managing a wide range of functions necessary to successfully obtain, bid, and price projects. They are responsible for ensuring an accurate scope of work is created, delivering a consistent and complete estimate, and maintaining a high quality of service in all dealings with customers, clients, and resource providers involved in our services. This position also includes a sales side to sell other services we offer or upgrades on a project as well.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides detailed, line-item scope and estimate for items within the project that are uncertain and need further investigation.
- Identifies general project requirements and/or constraints to bring the structure and contents back to pre-loss conditions.
- Divides project into sections to make the scope more manageable.
- Documents all dimensions, diagrams, and images of each room or section.
- Identifies and documents all tasks that must be performed in each room or section.
- Identifies and documents any exclusions; what will not be part of your scope of work.
- Determines resources needed in each section (labor, equipment, consumables, and subcontractors).
- Discusses scope of work with the customer.
- Reviews project requirements (National Account bulletins, insurance company requirements, local agreements).
- Creates the project estimate using agreed upon estimating platform.
- Sends out bid requests for specific subcontracted work as needed.
- Complies and submits project proposal packet.
- Work with customers to understand desired upgrades/changes
- Ensure that estimates meet client requirements
- Analyze labor, material, and time requirements for a project
Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully fulfill the major duties and responsibilities above. Some key requirements to fulfill the position may include, but not be limited to:
- Proficient use of Xactimate™ estimating software
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- 2 years previous estimating and/or insurance adjusting experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with other people.
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language to communicate with others, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner. Multi or Bi-lingual language skills are preferred but not required.
- Intermediate problem-solving skills including proper scope of work, general constraints to bring the structure and contents
- Advanced presentation skills which may include detailed presentation/update of project progress and issues to upper management, as well as communication with the customer/client.
- Detailed oriented with an emphasis on project management, building codes, and documentation of all areas of the project.
- Intermediate organizational skills to properly document, diagram and estimate each section of the project and the overall project.
Fast-paced, high pressure work environment.
Shift hours may vary depending on the size and scope of the project but will typically consist of eight (8) to ten (10) hour shifts.
Ability to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time with approximately sixty percent (60%) of the time evaluating and documenting the site.
Ability to travel locally and out of state when necessary
